Vora Guide: The S-Tier Flank Everyone Builds Wrong

Vora, The Harbinger — a corrupted Seal Guardian turned herald of darkness, and the rare flank our community-consensus tier list puts in S tier. Her engine is the Darkness passive: every scythe hit banks a stack, every stack pays out healing when spent — a diver whose health bar grows stronger the longer she stays in the fight.

The late-2024 talent rework (patch 7.6) quietly rebuilt her: Deafening Silence and Relentless Presence were deleted, two new talents took their slots, and Tendril gained a second charge. Most Vora guides on the internet predate all of it.

And the ranked data holds this series’ sharpest finding yet: her two most-played loadouts — nearly 3,200 recorded matches between them — win only 41% of the time, while the damage-reduction builds hiding at the bottom of the list win up to 61%. The best Vora is not the one the queue keeps copying.

// ABILITY KIT
LMB
Deadly Scythe300/200/200/600 chain + 100 bleed

A four-swing projectile chain (Medium–Light–Light–Heavy) reaching ~185 units, each hit bleeding for 100 over 1.25s and feeding a Darkness stack. The bleed ticks through shields — and shields grant stacks too.

RMB
Obliteration600 AoE + knockback · immune in the airCD 11s

Leap up and slam down for 600 area damage with a knockback — fully immune to damage and crowd control until you land. At five Darkness stacks it deals 300 more and slows enemies 30% for 2s. Her panic button, engage, and ult-dodge in one.

Q
Dark Siphon200 + 400 DoT · heals 300 on hitCD 6s

A 350-unit projectile for 200 plus 400 damage over 1.5s, regenerating 300 health over 2s when it connects. At five Darkness stacks it also Cripples the target for 1.5s — no escapes allowed.

F
Tendril100-unit grapple · 2 chargesCD 12s

A grappling tendril that pulls you to terrain — or to enemy players. Used point-blank, it launches you into the air above the target. Two charges at base since the late-2024 rework: one to dive, one to leave.

ULT
Harbinger’s WrathExecutes below 66% HP · 1100 above

Hunt mode: +75% movement speed and 40% damage reduction for 5s. Select a nearby target to stun, cripple, and silence them — enemies at or below 66% health are executed outright; above it they take 1100. Ignores shields and CC immunity, and a kill during the stun refunds 25% charge.

PASSIVEDarkness — every scythe hit grants a stack, up to five. Dark Siphon and Obliteration consume all stacks, healing 100 per stack over 1s and gaining bonus effects at five. The heal always fires, even if the ability misses — aggression literally keeps her alive.
// TALENT BUILDS — PICK ONE

Dark Siphon deals an additional 10% of the target’s maximum health over 1.5s. The community’s overwhelming choice at 72.5% pick rate — a tank-shredder that turns her 6s poke into percent-health damage no frontline can out-sustain.

// LOADOUT
5Unified in Purpose−25% damage taken for 3s after Dark Siphon hits
5What May Come−20% damage taken for 3s after Tendril
3New Purpose+150 maximum health
1Crimson Ascent−1s Dark Siphon cooldown on a miss
1A Dance with Fate−0.6s Tendril cooldown

The statistical outlier: ranked data shows damage-reduction stacks winning 55–61% of matches while the two most-copied cooldown loadouts sit at 41%. Play the durable Vora, not the cycler — the numbers are not close.

// ITEMS
NimbleHer best item by winrate (52.2%) — a melee diver lives on speed
Life RipHer most-bought item — scythe chains drain entire health bars
ChronosMore Siphons means more percent-health damage and more healing
CauterizeYou are in melee range of their healer’s favorite target anyway
// HOW TO PLAY IT
  • Open every fight with scythe swings, not abilities — five Darkness stacks before you commit means a Cripple Siphon and a fat heal are loaded.
  • Siphon the tank on cooldown: 600 base plus 10% of max health beats what most damage champions do to a frontline.
  • With the DR cards up you win almost every 1v1 trade — Siphon hit plus Tendril is 45% less damage taken for the whole exchange.
  • Save Obliteration’s immunity for the scary button: it dodges ults, executes, and burst combos on reaction.
// MATCHUPS
▼ COUNTERED BY
Lian
LianHer top counter by votes — auto-aim abilities never miss a melee diver closing 185 units, and 2000 HP melts on the approach.
Lex
LexA flank-hunter with his own execute — he wins the close-range slugfest she has to start.
Khan
KhanGrabs her out of her combo, and his 5000-HP shield eats scythe chains while the team focuses her.
▲ STRONG AGAINST
Terminus
TerminusHer execute ignores shields and CC immunity — the axe giant’s whole toolkit — and his health bar spends half the fight under 66%.
Maeve
MaeveShe out-sustains the nine lives duel, and a five-stack Siphon Cripple deletes Maeve’s escape mid-pounce.
Ying
YingTendril reaches the backline, illusions feed her Darkness stacks, and the execute ends the teleport games.

Everything Vora does happens inside 185 units — she has to walk into the fight to function. Hitscan champions that punish the approach, and anyone who can interrupt her mid-combo, turn her sustain engine off. Her healing only flows while she lands hits: keep her at arm’s length and she starves. See where Vora sits in our tier list →

// COMMUNITY RESOURCES

Is Vora good in 2026?

S-tier, score 0.70 in our community-consensus tier list — “a sustain-heavy diver that snowballs out of control”, sharing the top bracket with Azaan. At #9 by pick rate she is popular without being oversaturated, and unlike the comfort-pick tier, her placement is earned: percent-health shred, an i-frame on an 11-second cooldown, and the most generous execute in the game.

That execute deserves its own sentence: Harbinger’s Wrath kills anyone at or below 66% health — the highest threshold in Paladins — and it ignores shields and crowd-control immunity. It is why she deletes point tanks like Terminus, and why our Maeve guide lists her among the flanks that out-duel the cat: nine lives mean little against a button that only needs you at two-thirds health.

How do you counter Vora?

Starve the scythe. Everything Vora does happens inside 185 units — her damage, her stacks, and therefore her healing all require landing melee-range projectiles. Hitscans that punish the walk-in shut her engine off, and her top counter by community vote is Lian (+34): auto-aim abilities never miss a diver closing the gap, a fitting sequel to Lian topping the anti-Maeve chart too.

The second answer is interruption. Her combo has seams — Khan’s grab yanks her out of it, Lex matches her execute pressure in the range she has to fight at, and any burst during Obliteration’s landing lockout catches her stack-empty and heal-less. Respect the immunity window; punish the second after it.

FAQ

What is the best Vora talent?

Unyielding Pressure, and the community agrees for once — 72.5% pick rate. Dark Siphon dealing an extra 10% of the target’s maximum health makes her a tank-shredder. The bigger lever is the loadout: ranked data shows damage-reduction cards (Unified in Purpose, What May Come) winning 55–61% while the popular cooldown builds lose.

How does Vora’s ultimate work?

Harbinger’s Wrath grants 75% movement speed and 40% damage reduction for 5 seconds while she selects a nearby target. Enemies at or below 66% maximum health are executed outright; above that they take 1100 damage. It ignores shields and CC immunity, and a kill during the stun refunds 25% ultimate charge.

What happened to Deafening Silence?

Removed in the patch 7.6 talent rework (October 2024) along with Relentless Presence. Their replacements are Eclipsed Affection — an Obliteration cooldown talent — and Parasitic Pull, which lets Tendril target allies. Any guide still recommending the Silence talent predates the current kit.
